She is a UAE national who is the country's first lady surgeon. She attended medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, obtained her fellowship in General Surgery then sub-specialised in Surgical Oncology and, in particular, Breast Surgery and reconstruction at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London and the M D Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston, Texas.  She has her own practice in Dubai, the Well Woman Clinic, and is founder of a breast cancer support group and charity called "Brest Friends". She is a freelance writer on women's health issue and is married to an American television journalist. They are parents to two daughters aged 17 and 16 years old.
